Top 7 things to do in Pointe-Verte | Summer 2019

Here are 7 of our favourite things to do in Pointe-Verte this summer!

 Published Jun 21

Pointe-Verte is a peaceful village just north of Petit-Rocher. This warm Acadian community is the perfect spot for vacationers and nature enthusiasts. Even if you're visiting the region and staying in another municipality, you're only a few minutes away from a breath of fresh air...so be sure to put Pointe-Verte on your to-do list!

Here are 7 of our favourite things to do in Pointe-Verte this summer!

1) Gîte Toutes Saisons Bed & Breakfast

[Gîte Toutes Saisons B&B+]

You look like you’re the kind of person who likes following rules. Well, here’s the thing about the Gîte Toutes Saison: there are exactly 4 house rules.

  • Arrive when you can.
  • Sleep when you're tired.
  • Rise when you're rested.
  • Eat when you're hungry.

Sounds like a great way to spend your vacation, doesn't it?

2) The Pointe-Verte Pier

Located in the heart of Pointe-Verte, the pier is a wonderful place to relax while admiring the sea and the distant mountains of Gaspésie. Especially perfect on a beautiful sunny day, you can easily walk, drive or bike there and enjoy your lunch at a picnic table. In June, you can even meet local lobster fishermen as they return from their daily fishing trip!

3) Chaleur Green Trails

[Chaleur Green Trails]

We hope you packed your hiking shoes! The Chaleur Green Trails is a non-profit organization aiming to build and maintain "greenway" trails and infrastructures in the Chaleur region. In Pointe-Verte, you'll find a diverse network of great walking trails located around the Atlas Park area. Visit www.sentiersvertschaleurgreentrails.ca for more information!

4) SCUBA diving

[Cojo Diving Inc.]

Atlas Park is built around a flooded rock quarry and provides an excellent SCUBA diving environment. The depth of the quarry extends down to 80ft, with items like sunken boats and an underwater training platform to spice things up. Atlas Park is the ideal location to receive an open water Discover Scuba course, to receive your basic Open Water level certification or even Rescue Diver certification. Contact COJO Diving for more information about diving at Atlas Park!

5) La Barque

La Barque is a non-profit cooperative whose mission is to share spaces, tools and knowledge to the entire Chaleur region. You'll find a cozy bookstore "Bouquinerie d'Arielle", loaded with books, CDs, DVDs, LPs and cassettes for the collectors and treasure hunters. At their boutique -- "The Dock Shop" -- you'll find delightful local wooden creations such as tables, breadboards, mirrors, toys and other products made by local volunteers. Year-round, La Barque is a real treasure trove of art, creativity and fun activities for everyone.

6) Parc Atlas

[Atlas Park]

Located at 145 rue de la Garde in Pointe-Verte, the Parc Atlas is a nature lover's paradise. This summer -- July and August to be specific -- the parc will open its doors to tourists and locals alike. Go fishing on the lake, navigate a pedalboat, walk the beautiful trails and climb the tower overlooking the lake! Don't forget to pack a picnic. Activities will also be organized throughout the summer, so be sure to follow us on Facebook for the latest updates.

7) Learn Aikido

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art founded in 1925, often translated as "the way of harmonious spirit". The Aikido du Rocher Dojo is located at La Barque in Pointe-Verte and offers Aikido classes for both children and adults. Unlike other forms of martial arts, Aikido aims at harmonizing with the environment in order to neutralize and redirect attacks. Perfect for beginners. Arigatō gozaimasu!
